Secrets of A Champion: What makes a winner poker player?

Women poker players who are champions have common traits that make them consistent winners. Why makes a poker player like Kathy Liebert, who has won more money in poker than any other women, a constant winner?

I asked her this very question on Poker Talk radio (www.WBZT.com) last week. She mentioned alot of things but I want to summarize the main points below that can be true.

Your thoughts into a winners mindset

Believe that you can win! Being a winner is a mind game. Knowing that you can win, and thinking the thoughts of a winner is important.

Control Your Emotions

Not letting her emotions get the best of her. If she takes a bad beat, not showing that she was affected by it. Pulling her thoughts together to play the next hand. Best advice: Let it go.

Gender is not an issue

Being comfortable that she is the only women at the table playing with a majority of men. Even in the past before she was a well know player, she did not allow the fact that she was a women player even come into play.

The Aggressive Game

I have talked on this site about playing the aggressive game. It becomes and important factor here. Kathy mentioned on this show that many women play tight with little aggression. Men tend to take advantage of this style of play, trying to get women off a hand when they are playing so tight. It is important to have your table image be one that is strong, aggressive and good. Aggression used in a non strategic way will work against you.
